World’s Largest Ever GMO Safety Study Set for London Launch

Posted on Oct 22 2014 - 6:40pm by Sustainable Pulse

On Wednesday Sustainable Pulse received a media advisory regarding the launch of a $ 25 Million international study on GMO and pesticide safety in Central London, UK on November 11.

The location of the Press Conference has now changed due to the amount of interest according to the Factor GMO organizers – The new location is: St. James’ Court, A Taj Hotel, 54 Buckingham Gate, London, SW1E 6AF http://www.stjamescourthotel.co.uk/About/location

According to the Media Advisory; “the $ 25 million ‘Factor GMO’ study will investigate the health effects of a genetically modified (GMO) crop that has been in our food and animal feed supplies for many years. It will answer the question: Is this GMO food and associated pesticide safe for human health? “Farmers, retailers, governments, scientists and consumers have been involved in a heated international debate since GM foods were introduced in 1994. However, there has never been a scientific study that is comprehensive enough to give them a clear answer regarding the safety for human health of any one GM food – until now.”

  • The international ‘Factor GMO’ study will be the largest and most comprehensive long-term experiment ever conducted on a GM food and its associated pesticide.
  • The scientists involved in Factor GMO come from a ‘neutral’ background. They have no connection to the biotech industry or the anti-GMO movement, a factor that will add credibility to the results.
  • The scientists on the study review board are internationally respected experts in their fields from the U.S., Italy and Russia.
  • ‘Factor GMO’ will also add valuable data of unprecedented power to enable regulators, governments and the general public of every country to answer the question: Is the GM food and associated pesticide tested safe at real-world levels of consumption and exposure?
  • Factor GMO is the first long-term combined GMO/pesticide safety study that has involved full multi-generational, toxicology and carcinogenicity arms.

Henry Rowlands, Sustainable Pulse’s Director, stated Wednesday; “It is with optimism that I welcome this opportunity to find out the full truth about the possible harm caused by GMOs and pesticides to human health. This is the Ultimate Study that we have all waited 20 years for. I have always supported ‘neutral’ science.” Sustainable Pulse will keep our readers updated with all of the details surrounding the study when they are announced.

I hope someone is investigating everyone involved, as no doubt there are many ways to make a study appear independent when it is not. Regardless of the outcome, I will still be skeptical if it shows GMOs to be safe, for the simple reason that anything that didn’t exist on this planet during human evolution has a high chance of causing disease, simply because we never evolved the biology to deal with it. This is true for all new chemicals we have created, as well as new proteins created by tinkering around with DNA before we fully understand how life works. The day a scientist can create a new, fully functional life-form in the lab, will be the day they can claim to fully understand life.

I totally agree David. Personally, I don’t believe that a scientist exists that doesn’t have strong opinions about GMOs one or the other. I will be interested in seeing the results but will be skeptical about their agenda. I think they should film the whole experiment and provide it along with the other documentation.

I am a bit suspicious of this. I tried to find out more about the group Factor GMO and there is no web page at that address. Additionally it would seem that there is nothing within the email to even suggest that there is a group in existence. Its all a bit suspicious and scam like.
The Farmers Club has absolutely no current events or up to date news of events on its lists and those that are there are closed for any further bookings. To be honest it is all a bit fancy and rich class dining and meeting which is not exactly in the same league as most British Farmers. Most of them haven’t two pennies to rub together.
However if someone else has done more research into who or what this is all about and can shed some light on the Farmers Club etc and the rest of this fancy event I would be most interested.

Kev C, thanks for looking that up. I haven’t heard a peep about this study at all and am surprised it’s development got past me. 25 mil is nothing to sneeze at.

The complaint from scientists, both pro GM and other, has always been that they are unable to obtain the raw product in order to conduct their research. Prof Seralini and Dr Judy Carman I know had to use underhand methods in order to obtain GM feed for their experiments.
this is what puzzles me here. Monsanto fights labelling because it doesn’t want it’s food monitored so I find it hard to believe it would be handing over the raw product to independent researchers unless it has some control over the outcome.

I’m excited to hear this. But, I can’t find any other sources for this info and am confused. What is this Farmer’s Club in London? Looks like a hotel. Also wondering who is funding it, as that’s a lot of money. More info would be awesome. I want to believe this is true, but there isn’t enough information here.

I agree with Janel…where is the $25 million coming from? Why was this published with so little information? Where did the “media advisory” come from? Sounds really fishy…

No mention of how long this study will go and how soon we can expect the conclusion? Most of the Monsanto fake studies to date have been 90 days. So a long study could be rather short relatively speaking. Regardless, it will be interesting to read and find out what controls were used, where the GMO came from and how they were obtained, and the end results of birth defects, intestinal and stomach disorders, disease, cancer, etc.

Monsanto has a blanket agreement allowing research on all their deregulated seeds at all universities in the United States. I would be surprised if they made it difficult to do it elsewhere.

Studies were already done. Rats got Cancer after 4 mos. on gmos, that’s the same as 10 human yrs. Now that almost all the corn, soy, canola, sugarbeets, etc. are gmo, the clock is ticking.

It’s a matter of when we will get sick…not if we get sick.

Full details will be made available on November 11 th – Sustainable Pulse only published this Media Advisory to make people aware that something ‘big’ is soon to be announced. It is not our normal policy to publish Media Advisories that we receive – however in this case we believe it is in the public interest.

Will we know who funded it and who the scientists are, and will the research be released? Otherwise it’s a waste of 25m and will only infuriate those that already boycott GM products. Personally, corporate control of the food supply and the environment are enough for me to continue my boycott. Having animals that have severe reactions to it I cannot see GM being even remotely safe.

They already know the toxic chemicals are harmful because they have been causing all kinds of sickness on the Hawaii island of Molokai where Monsanto has been growing open-air GMO crops. The same chemicals they spray on those crops ends up in the ocean after the rainfalls, impacting the coral reefs, killing the coral and in turn the fish. The seaturtles have tumors growing all over their bodies because of this!! We dont need industrial grown food. Give the land back to the farmers, and stop corporate greed from destroying our food!

I too want to know what’s in the food I eat. We have the right to know what we are paying for and putting in our body!
About 1 in 8 women get breast cancer. There has to be some knid of connection with gmo’s and pesticides. The cancer rate was never that high, earlier in this century.
I hope they find an answer.

Very true Sally. You said “Monsanto fights labeling because it doesn’t want it’s food monitored so I find it hard to believe it would be handing over the raw product to independent researchers unless it has some control over the outcome.”

From what I have heard, Monsanto recently agreed to turn over raw product, possibly data to “Universities” for research.

The only problems there are 1. Most universities receive major funding from the AgriChemical cartel like monsanto and 2. Scientists at the universities are well aware of how scientists that find harm are treated…

The price of truth… Because they dared to speak out about health and medical disasters they were persecuted by those they attacked.

An example is Monsanto Corporation, which encompasses a global drive to use patent monopolies and political influence to change the nature of nature. Monsanto’s unlabeled, genetically engineered crops are widely unregulated, as noted by Scientific American, which said: “Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify that genetically modified crops perform as advertised. That is because agritech companies have given themselves veto power over the work of independent researchers”
