Anti-GMO TV Commercial Set to Change Course of WA Election – Watch It Here

Posted on Feb 24 2013 - 11:11am by Sustainable Pulse

This video is the 1st time in the world that a TV campaign with approx 6 million views will expose the Seralini 2012 research to the mass public in an election in Western Australia; ie. the Seralini study links GMO to cancer, liver and kidney damage.

We hope this is the 1st of many TV advertisements to show the public the safety and health issues of GMOs

The Safe Food Foundation has placed TV commercials on Western Australian TV (Channel 7) to balance the debate on GM food in the WA state election 9 March 2013.

1.8 million people will see our TV ads 2.92 times in WA; approx 6 million views.

GM foods are not safe, regulators have failed to protect us, and the WA Liberals and WA Nationals have a policy that ignores the independent science showing evidence of harm. Instead they are promoting GM crops to farmers and the public.

Barnett throws caution to the wind on potential GM risks

Thursday 20 Sep 2012 : Paul Papalia MLA, Shadow Minister for Agriculture

A new study published in respected US science journal Food and Chemical Toxicology linked consumption of Genetically Modified (GM) food to cancer, raising serious questions about the Barnett Government’s promotion of GM farming in WA, Shadow Agriculture Minister Paul Papalia said today.

Mr Papalia said the Barnett Government introduced commercial-scale GM farming to WA and confirmed in Parliament it took no interest in whether these crops entered the food chain or if they were safe.

“This is the second peer-reviewed research paper in the space of a week that urges cauin respect of potential health risks of GM food,” Mr Papalia said.

“The Barnett Government should be acting in a cautious manner in defence of Western

Australian people, for whom it should be working. Instead, it has sold part of the cropbreeding division of the Agriculture Department to a multinational GM company.

“Whose side is Mr Barnett on?

“The people of Western Australia should be the government’s priority.

“Mr Barnett appears determined to act in the interests of multinational GM companies anthose with a financial interest in GM products.”

Mr Papalia said in light of the report, Mr Barnett must answer these serious questions:

• Have locally grown GM crops entered the state’s food chain and, if so where andwhen?

• What will the Barnett Government do now to ensure the safety of consumers?

• Has the Barnett Government sought legal advice regarding the state’s exposure liability for potential negative health outcomes?

“Mr Barnett must reveal if and where WA-grown GM crops entered the State’s food cand what he has done to ensure their safety following this report,” Mr Papalia said.

Love it and the damage to the “credibility” of GMOs will be lasting. Monsanto and cronies stakeholders will be reeling!

As much as I’m against GMOs, I don’t think this commercial will have the impact it is hoped to. Americans in general are stupid. Most wont link the conditions of the rats to themselves. I showed the video of that study to 30 people, and the first question I got from 30% of them was, ‘it might happen to rats cause they’re so much smaller, or different than us. That’s stuff doesn’t happen to humans. If it did, why aren’t millions of us walking around with huge tumors on our necks?” We’ll see I guess. I hope I’m wrong. And I’m pulling for the bill to pass.

This advert is only showing in Western Australia. Hopefully the first of many different adverts around the World.

The reason more of us aren’t walking around with huge tumors on our necks is that we seek health care and surgeons before they get that big, after which we get buried out of site.

If this is a published study, then why don’t we get info about what crops were engineered with what genes? Even if it’s a not for humans crop, it does matter, but this seems purposely vague.

Hey Lindsay. Roundup tolerant corn, so farmers can overspray their GM crops with glyphosate to get better weed kills, without harming the crop plants. Just one question: Exactly what action will the Labour or Greens take to remove GMO’s from Australia? Hope they don’t react like Obama who promised gm labelling for USA and then abandoned that promise!

Stop blaming the left or right. Take money out of politics and we will see the end of GM companies buying our Congressmen and elections.

FYI, liberals have nothing to do with keeping information from the public. During the California elections it was the conservatives and republicans that made food labeling a political issue and about money instead of health.

This is the one area where left and right should agree. We ALL deserve to know what is in our food. For the safety of our children and family members….

Will we ever end GM crops…. I sure hope so..

But we will get our food labeled so that the people have a choice and we can put big agro out of business when we stop buying their products.

This is from the Future. Barnett wins. Greens actually lose 3.5% more votors than before and win zero seats.
