Russia Considers Total Ban on All GMO Products

Posted on Sep 25 2013 - 4:52pm by Sustainable Pulse

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the relevant agencies to consider a possible ban on the import into Russia of products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by October 15.

The order is addressed to Rospotrebnadzor, the Health Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, and the Trade and Economic Development Ministry. They are ordered to “submit proposals on amendments to the Russian legislation aimed at tightening control over the turnover of products containing components obtained from GMOs together with the relevant federal executive bodies.”

The aforementioned agencies are also ordered to submit proposals “on the possibility of banning the import of such products into the Russian Federation.”

A list of the prime minister’s orders was drawn up to fulfill the presidential orders issued after the meeting on the socio-economic development of the Rostov region held on September 18. Medvedev’s orders have been posted on the government website.

Russia is currently taking a hard line on GMOs – in August the first independent project for identifying whether Russian farmers are growing illegal GM crops started in the Belgorod region.

NAGS (The National Association for Genetic Safety) conducted the first checks of agricultural crops for the presence of GMOs.  No GMO plants were found in any Belgorod fields.

We remind you that currently according to the law in Russia 19 GM lines are allowed in foodstuffs, but the cultivation of GMOs is not allowed.

After joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Russia is obliged to simplify the procedure for registration of genetically modified products, seed and feed, to stop their safety checks and to stop controls over their distribution.

The WTO prohibits safety checks and controls over distribution of GMOs? Would appreciate link for that?

It is also on the Russian government website.
The WTO will soon remove GMO products from their list of free-trade products.

Thanks for all that additional material. Do you know if that doc has somewhere an English version. Some govts have them already automatically all their documents translated into English.

Well these guys are actually looking out for their country. Unfortunately our set is not. Maybe the Russian’s can help us do a Manchurian candidate-ectomy. All we seem to be able to do is dither and wobble and not get it done.

How will our Russian friends be able to tell what is a GMO If the US FDA wont allow GMO labeling, although the FDA mandates every other food stuff be labeled?
    How INSAIN is that?

Our Government, specifically the White House, USDA, FDA, and EPA are so corrupt that they officially are sponsoring the promotion and growth of GMOs all over the world and especially in the US. May God help us from this corruption before my Grandchildren discover that there is no more “Organic Food”.

I’m not saying that all GMOs are unsafe, only that the US Government has not done it’s diligent duty to insure that these laboratory plants are safe for humans. Why are they available before they are thoroughly tested for safety?

Have you ever wondered why all the news organizations shy away from covering this science fiction story coming out of the US?

You can believe it when the saying is “Money is the Root of All Evil.” Just look at our current food supply. It is nothing like it was in the first part of the 20th century and before.

Fantastic. More sanity from Russia. Thank God for them. Otherwise we are subject to all manner of destructive vileness.
