Take Action: Stop Toxic GM Maize in Europe

Posted on Nov 4 2013 - 3:03pm by Sustainable Pulse

This Wednesday 6 November, a crucial decision will be made on whether or not to open up Europe’s fields to new toxic genetically modified (GM) maize. The European Commission has the power to reject this maize (called Pioneer 1507), and to stand up for the good of European citizens, consumers and the environment.

Public opposition to genetically modified crops has ensured that the overwhelming majority of Europe’s countryside has remained GM-free. You can help keep it this way!

Europe is faced with a new wave of GM-crops that could drastically change the way we produce food in Europe – including extensive pesticide spraying. These GM-crops are unnecessary, risky and profit large multinational companies at the expense of small scale and sustainable farming.

The 9-minute film above presents some of the dangers of GM-crops, and calls for people across Europe and beyond to take action to stop them. We need a future of food and farming that benefits people and planet, and not the pockets of big business. We need to stop GM-crops from spreading across Europe.

Tell the European Commission they must reject this toxic maize, and stand up for people and planet.

I’m not on Twitter and don’t intend to join. What other action options can you give me, such as sending an email?
